MADE FOR MOMENT-MAKING
Merino wool is an exceptionally soft material derived from the coats of Merino sheep. It grows organically, biodegrades naturally, and is sourced from sheep who grow new fleeces every year — making it a 100% renewable.
When it comes to active pursuits, Merino wool’s natural performance features make it a standout. It’s water-resistant, breathable, and thermo-regulating — which means it helps keep you warm in the cold and cool when your heart rate rises.
Unlike synthetic alternatives, it’s naturally odor-resistant and wicks moisture away from the body to keep you dry and comfortable throughout the day. That makes it especially ideal for high-adrenaline activities like skiing, touring or hiking.
Tougher than cashmere, yet luxuriously soft, Merino is designed for wherever the moment takes you — on or off the mountain.
IS MERINO WOOL WARM?
Merino wool is incredibly warm. It’s known for its superior insulating abilities and its unique ability to regulate body temperature in a wide range of conditions.
Its natural fibres trap warmth without overheating the body, making it an ideal choice for layering during ski trips. Unlike synthetic fabrics, which can trap moisture and lead to discomfort, Merino wool wicks moisture away from the skin, helping you stay dry and balanced.
That’s why it’s often the fabric of choice for base layers and mid-layers, where warmth without bulk is key. Layer your favourite Merino base underneath your ski jacket or pair a mid-layer knit like our Piste Sweater with ski pants for seamless alpine style.
IS MERINO WOOL ITCHY?
Not at all — in fact, Merino wool is prized for its softness and comfort.
Woven from ultra-fine fibers that are thinner than a human hair, Merino wool naturally bends against the skin rather than poking or scratching. Its wavy structure flows with your body’s movements, offering a smooth and irritation-free feel — even during high-intensity sports.
Where traditional wool often measures over 40 micrometres in diameter, quality Merino sits between 15–24 micrometres. This lower diameter is the secret behind its exceptional softness and flexibility.
It’s no wonder our Merino styles are go-to base layers. Lightweight, breathable and buttery soft, they’re comfortable enough to wear all day, even against bare skin.
BEST WHEN CARED FOR
The answers to: ‘How to wash your knitwear?’ and more specifically, ‘How to wash your Merino wool jumpers?’ Are what will ensure they last season after season. Here’s our guide:
Always hand-wash. Never over 30° and always gently, using a delicate wool wash. Only wash your Merino pieces when you absolutely have to. A gentle steam will work just as well most of the time.
Gently squeeze the water from your knit then lay flat to dry, ideally outside, on a towel in natural light. You might need to gently stretch it so it retains its original shape.
Once dry, gently fold and store flat in a clean, dry spot. Add cedar wood pieces to avoid moths.
For the best care results, always refer to the individual garment labels, as specific instructions may vary slightly between pieces.
THE PERFECT SKI LAYER
Merino wool was made for the mountains. From the moment you zip up to your last après drink, it’s the layer you’ll reach for again and again.
It insulates without adding weight, manages moisture effortlessly, resists odor, and maintains its shape — even after hours of wear. Plus, its natural breathability means you’ll stay comfortable whether you’re carving through powder or cruising the chairlift.
Our Merino styles — including the Schild Sweater and Piste Sweater — are designed to transition seamlessly from the slopes to the chalet, with technical properties wrapped in timeless design.
All of our Merino pieces are Woolmark-certified — a guarantee of premium quality, sustainability, and traceability. So when you choose Merino, you’re not just choosing performance. You’re choosing progress.
