Gstaad, Switzerland

Old-school glamour reigns supreme in Gstaad, a traditional alpine resort with an international reputation that’s a favourite with royals, celebrities, and our Perfect Moment co-founders.

BELLE ÉPOQUE

The ritziest way to arrive in Gstaad? Via the Belle Époque, the 1930s-style train that will make you feel like Elizabeth Taylor in the glamour stakes (a PM ski suit can also help with that). Catch the Golden Pass train from Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva and enjoy the scenic two-hour journey up to Zweisimmen – it’s the most romantic way to travel.

LE GRAND BELLEVUE

If you’re of the opinion that sushi in a ski resort is counter-intuitive – well, you haven’t tasted the yellowtail nigiri at the Japanese Sushi Bar in Le Grand Bellevue. That’s not all the grand old dame of Gstaad has to offer: with stylish suites and a five-star, 3000 square-meter spa, you’d be forgiven for forgoing the skiing almost entirely to spend a day at this most comfortable of family-owned hotels.

LE PETIT CHALET

For the most intimate dining experience in Gstaad, seek out Le Petit Chalet. Tucked away in the grounds of Le Grand Bellevue, this charming little log cabin seats 18 and specializes in traditional Swiss fondue – we take ours with truffle, while swathed in PM’s Astrid faux fur coat.

WASSERNGRAT

For the prettiest coffee spot on the slopes, head to Wasserngrat, a hefty Swiss chalet with a beautiful, sun-filled terrace. The food isn’t bad either: the standard Swiss fare is enlivened with delicious local produce for laid-back dishes that don’t disappoint.
